   What  is Physical Culture ?

Physical Culture or "Physie" (pronounced fizzy), as it is commonly called, is a form of dance performed to modern music that promotes posture, strength, balance, fitness & flexibility.

Physie Fun & Fitness for Girls of all Ages

Our school comes under the auspices of Bjelke-Petersen Bros.(BJP) in Sydney with numerous clubs spread across Eastern States. Vermont South is an established & successful Melbourne club.

Our aims for Physie girls are firstly, enjoyment as a fabulous after-school activity without pressure. Secondly, to create good posture and deportment. Thirdly, to develop co-ordination, muscle tone and overall physical fitness.

Physical Culture is a combination of:
 marching

deportment
 aerobic
exercises

classical ballet

jazz ballet

gymnastics
 a
ll rolled into one great fitness activity for all ages

Combining these elements teaches the relationship of music to movement, rhythm, self discipline, coordination, balance and musical interpretation.

The exercise and dance routines are taught from a syllabus set by BJP and graded with degree of difficulty according to age group and child ability. Each age groups' routine include these set components to modern music :

 Marching for posture and deportment
Warm-Up for cardio fitness and strength
 Breathing for posture and balance
 Exercises for precision and flexibility
Relaxed for gentle classical ballet movement
Floor Drill for flexibility along gymnastics lines
Dance for a fun finish with a jazz theme the girls love

Physical Culture is open to girls of all ages from as young as 3yrs to young adults.  Competitions are offered to all girls, but are not compulsory. Although, being in a team or competing individually, does help promote a sense of belonging, club spirit and loyalty as well as helping to build great friendships that last for years.

Fees are reasonable and girls are welcome to come and watch or join in for a couple of lessons to see if they like it.
